“It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Carey. He is not only a brilliant writer but also very reliable - both in terms of factual accuracy and by meeting deadlines.

“Carey proved to be incredibly effective during the entire process of producing ‘National Parks of the United Kingdom’. Normally, a production like this would require at least 18 months of work. Thanks to Carey’s personality and professionalism, we managed to finish the book in just over nine months.

“I’ve been the publisher of more than 500 books and Carey is one of the most professional people I’ve ever worked with.”

- Jeppe Wikström, publisher and part-owner of publishing house Bokförlaget Max Ström, Stockholm

“Carey is a creative and stylish writer who handles every assignment with passion and dedication. His writing is both thoughtful and thought-provoking and, as a commissioning editor, I always looked forward to receiving his submissions. He’s not a bad editor himself, either!”

- Emily Rodway, Group Editor (Nature and Heritage), Think Publishing, Glasgow

At roughly the age of seven I told my mum I wanted to be a writer. I was told this would take years of hard work and perseverance so I promptly abandoned the idea.

After entertaining ambitions of becoming a fighter pilot (10 years old) and a world-conquering rock star (20) I rediscovered my knack for the written word and decided to base a career around it. I am now an award-winning author, journalist and editor, focused on my main preoccupations: outdoor adventure, nature, travel and landscape.

My words and images have featured in national newspapers, magazines and anthologies, and will soon feature very heavily indeed in my first book, which will be published in spring 2024. For eight years I was a monthly contributor to the longest-running column in the UK media. I have delivered writing commissions for notable clients and won awards for my travel journalism.

Writing has always featured heavily in my 15 years of professional experience, but other highlights have included editing a leading UK hiking magazine for five years, running a campaign that raised almost £1 million for mountain conservation, and making a string of appearances in national broadcast media.

I also take photographs and create social media content. I have a massive appetite and a ridiculous laugh. I’m still not ruling out the rock star thing.
